Problems with my photos after importing into iPhoto

I have got a new Macbook Pro so I need it to import all my photos from the old Mac. After I completed the backup of everything I connected the driver into the new Mac and tried to import the iPhoto library so I can get the photos into the new Mac. I got them all but with problems. There are many events that got double or more versions. Worse than that some of the problems became smaller! Like they have been in normal size and now they are just small photos. Any ideas or solutions for this problem? Thanks.
