Problems with Newsstand

I just started using Newsstand on my iPad Air and I'm having all sorts of trouble with it:

-It won't remember which page I was on, so I have to browse the entire magazine again
-Pressing the Home button doesn't go to the Home screen, I have to press it twice
-Sometimes it redownloads an issue that was already downloaded for no apparent reason

Is there any way to get around these issues? Reading magazines on my iPad is a lot more annoying than I thought it would be..
