Problems with old Mac

Hi

I was recently given a power mac 5500/275.

However it does not appear to boot. The person who gave it to me assured me it was working and tested before it was given to me.

This leads me to think there cant be anything major wrong.

I switched it on at the back and tried pressing the funny triangl/arrow button like I was told to but alas no joy.

can anyone advise me, I really am a complete novice to mac's having spent my formative years on an amiga!!

Can you hear the startup chime?
(could also be that the audio is switched off, so press and hold <COMMAND> <ALT> <P> <R> until you do hear the chime, to reset the PRAM, which also sets the startup disk and sound to "default")

If you can hear the "BOOIINNGGG!", maybe there is no Mac OS (8 or 9) installed....?

thanks I will try that tomorrow and let you know.

However when i say nothing is happening I literally mean nothing at all, there is no sound of hd whirring or fans etc.

Have you tried powering up using the key on the keyboard?
It is the key far most top-right (IIRC with "<"..)

So, plug in the power cord, and maybe use a switch on the back of the Mac, and then that keyboard power.
