I have two problems with pdf files, and haven't been able to find fixes on various forums. It is quite surprising that this hasn't been discussed/solved, as they seem obvious bugs in Safari and Preview (printing preferences), unless I just can't see how to do it.
1) how can I print international sized documents (A4 format) on US letter paper from the preview print preferences? It seems to me the only viable option is shrink the format to fit on the letter format, however this is a waste of paper real estate, as it typically leaves a huge margin at the top and side empty. Acrobat Reader on the other side automatically centers and perfectly zooms the page onto letter format and allows to print with the maximal font size. This is the reason I installed Acrobat in the first place, and unfortunately I chose for it to be the default reader, which was a curse, in other words my second problem:
2) how can I get back to using Preview as my default reader within Safari (so that I would only open a document "by hand" when I need to print a European document until Apple finds out that this would be an incredibly useful and obviously necessary function to have and adds it to the Preview feature list)? It isn't in the Safari preferences, and trashed the Adobe Acrobat plugin as recommended in a discussions with people having the same problem did not get rid of Adobe as default reader [EDIT: TRASHING OR MOVING THE PLUGIN DOES SOLVE THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER ONLY AFTER RESTARTING SAFARI].
Thanks.
