Hello all. I am new to the board and to macs in general. I hope that you can help me out a bit and I am grateful ahead of time for anyone kind enough to try to help me :)

So, here is the problem. I have an external drive attached to my mac mini (intel version). I have the drive formatted using the fat system (formatted it using the mac). It is connected to the mini via firewire. I have used sharepoints to share the drive and have enabled windows users and SMB. I can see the drive from my PC either through "network places" or simply by going through run \\ipadress\drivename

Ok, once i get to the drive i can move about in all the sub-directories and see all the folders and files that are present on the drive. Everything seems to be working fine then...or so I thought ;)

Here is the rub...

I cannot actually use or manipulate any of the files! For instance, if there was a movie on the drive, i can find the movie and try to open it from my PC, however, I then receive and error stating that the file cannot be found

This seems odd to me, because I can see the file, i just cannot open it. And despite the fact that I can see it, when i try to open it, windows says it cannot find it. Strange, says I.

Well, i worked on this for about 4 hours and tried to find something on the internet's and this site for me, but I could not. I apologize if i am posting an obvious or redundant question. I just don't really know what is going on.

Thanks again!
