Problems with Spotlight!!

hey guys!! Loving leopard for the most part, but something that is bothering me is that Spotlight will not find apps. I don't know what the problem is because under preferences I have everything checked.

Anyone else having problems with spotlight?

Apps only appear in Spotlight after I have opened them at least once...

Every time I try to do a filtered search of my computer, Spotlight needs to reindex for about 40 minutes. VERY, VERY annoying. Not to mention the filtered search doesn't work until spotlight is done.

I have a feeling that any update that comes out, will probably address Spotlight among other things because of some problems.
