I use SPSS stat software for analyzing data. Does anyone else have problems with it being SUPER SLOW? I mean, it could take up to an entire minute to start up. I have a 17in Powerbook. It's superfast on PCs, but it's always been slow for me. Any suggestions?? I have a lot of data to analyze with numerous variables, and I don't have the time - or the patience!! - to sit for 30 seconds while it scrolls down to the next variable!!

Which version are you using? I am on 11.0 and have not had any problems. You can see my hardware in my sig - I have 768 MB of RAM.
Do you only have problems when generating graphical output or also when manipulating variables or running tests and do data cleaning?

You might have a corrupted preferences file. This is a culprit for slow startups on a lot of other software... Point to the libraries folder in your home directory, then search for "SPSS" and delete the file that has SPSS and .plist in the file name, or rename it to anything else, like "temp" so that SPSS will think its gone.

I haven't really had particularly slow start times with SPSS, but I do have other gripes... *mumbles something about needing to move over fully to <R>*

Question

Where did you get the SPSS software? I need some for school but I can't seem to find it anywhere for Apple...care to share?

Versiontracker is your friend.

Ummm...a store? What do you mean, where do you get it? If you're in school, you should be able to get it at your univ. bookstore. I actually bought my copy via eBay because it was cheaper -- I ended up paying $85 for the gradpack. Which more or less offsets the suckiness involved with the OS X version.

I agree with what was said here already, try adding more memory to your computer, or it could be a preferance problem. SPSS can take up a lot of memory, that could be a big issue. check and see how much memory is left or space on your hard disk. You have a powerbook and maybe trying to preforme opperations that take up to much memory.

Problem installing PASW 18 / SPSS on macbook running OSX

Hi
I just got PASW / SPSS version 18 for my Mac, and it doesn't work. After it has installed, I try to open the application and I just get the warning message 'The Application PASW has quit unexpectedly' and cannot open the program.

I just bought it to do stats assignment over the weekend so would really appreciate any help!
Thanks!
MC

I'm having the same problem with SPSS 19.0. Did you ever resolve this issue?
