A couple of months ago, I ran into problems with my Time Machine backup: it basically went read-only, and while the drive could be read, now more backups could be made. I deleted the backup, recreated it with no problems, but the first "non-initial" backup failed with the same error: can't write to, or repair, the drive.
I finally remembered that I'd installed Steam to play Portal a day or so before it first happened, so I uninstalled it, rebuilt the backup, and now it's working fine.
Has anyone else had this issue?
Cheers,
Steve
Update: I take it back. Getting some freaky behaviour from this disk, so it's more likely the hardware.
