I think.
Let me explain quickly. I bought a refurbished iMac with everything topped out except the 3TB Fusion drive. Since day one I have been fighting with this thing to play nice with my Dell P2815Q and Seiki SE39YU tv. I cannot seem to get consistent performance from connecting this monitor or any monitor to the iMac except a native 1080p resolution Samsung I have. My concern is that the TB ports may be messed up which may have been why the previous owner returned it.
I've gone through a number of cables; I've tried the supplied DP - mDP cable that came with the Dell. Some mDP - HDMI cables by Cable Masters from Amazon which had favourable reviews but was very cheap and I believe in the saying that you get what you paid for.
I'm hoping it's just incompatible cables to blame so I ordered a $50 TB cable from Apple. Hopefully it will cure what ails it, but if it doesn't, I will have to return it if I'm allowed; it's already been over 30 days but I'm assuming my warranty is good for a year so they must do something to rectify this problem.
Any stories out there with wonky cables or in particular Apple's official cables being the solution to this problem? Would be devastated if I could only use my iMac as is without another or two monitors to go with it.
Let me know what you've heard or think. All thoughts are welcomed.
