Problems with trash

A few weeks ago I went into finder, pulled up preferences and selected empty trash securely under the advanced tab. I didn’t like it and would rather just empty the trash can securely once or twice a week. I went back in and unchecked the box. The issue I am having is that it seems it didn’t change back to the way it was, and now I have to put in my password anytime I throw something away. Please help. Thanks.
