Probs. after changing Battery in Wh. Macbook

I have a mid 97 13" White macbook 2.16 ghz. The battery started showing an X over it and it would die after pulling the power cable. I changed the battery and ran SMS. It'll power up now w/o the power cable (just batt. power) but now my top row of alhabet keys from Q-O doesn't work (only the P key on top row) any suggestions
