Hey all. I am having trouble with my 3GS touch screen. it locks up and freezes and is inoperable until i either put it to sleep and then wake it up or shake the phone. I had previously gone to the genius bar about a week ago they said the connector to the touch screen was loose and they fixed it. Sure enough it started doing the same problem again and being a little more unresponsive at times. i am going back to the genius bar tomorrow. I am fed up with trying to make it work. What i was wondering is do i have the right or can i demand a replacement phone? my 3G never had this problem. I personally think the touchscreen is defective. the build week numbers are 926. what do you all think? Can i demand a replacement? any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Hell yeah, you should (politely) demand a replacement.

Make sure that you point out that a repair has already been attempted but failed to resolve the issue.

Be nice.

haha. of course. i wasn't planning on going in a cussing them out. i just want it to be clear im frustrated with the device.

Now Jingles, cursing didn't work for the guy that got escorted out of the Apple Store by security, so I'm pretty sure it won't work for you. Remember, the Genius that you're dealing with isn't the same one you've dealt with in the past, so stay away from coffee and those energy drinks and you will have your new replacement in hand and you'll walk out the door a better person...:p

Well i don't drink coffee. Well ok a little starbucks here and there. haha. but no i had no plans to cuss them out. But i will be VERY disappointed if they won't replace it and might think of getting a non iphone. But i don't wanna think like that now. haha.

If you are continuing to have problems and their repairs are failing, just be firm but polite, and if need be talk to the manager.

I have always had luck being very nice and kind of almost lost. I will kind of hang my head and be like,

"I just dont know what to do. I really need it for work, I cant have it non responsive like this. Can you check if it may be possible to just replace it?? Thanks so much for even trying."

and they are usually very happy to help.

if you give them the chance to feel like the hero or the nice guys they will.

and I am a guy. (hard to tell with the name :))

This is true... I straight up dropped my 32GB 3GS, screen shattered and got a brand new phone out of it.. No, I'm not kidding... and of course I didn't say I dropped it...

I went to the Apple Store in San Francisco with a friend and she couldn't turn on her JB/UL T-Mobile iPhone and all she said was "I can't turn my iPhone on" and neither could the Genius; 15 minutes later she walked out of the store with a NIB iPhone, no questions asked....

I am happy to report that i went in to the apple store today. missed my genius appointment but went in anyways. told them what was up. i signed a form stating what i said was true or whatever it was. they gave me a Refurb iphone 3Gs 16 Gb black. basically the same exact model i had. Refurb works like a champ. BTW the refurb is from 2009 week 28. So in the end i am very happy and i PRAY that i don't get the same issue to arise again. So thank you all for your advice.

+1 ^^^ Congrats Jingles; now that wasn't so bad was it?:cool::cool:

By the way mine was a replacement NIB July 3rd, '09 week 26, and no issues with it at this time...
