So if you were buying a new mini and with the cost being the same, would you upgrade the processor from i5 to i7, or increase the memory from 8Gb to 16Gb? UK pricing.

If you are willing/able to upgrade your own memory, it’s not a zero sum game.

I went for the i7 and upgraded the memory myself (32GB). But… if I had it to do over again, I’d save a little and go with an i5. FWIW my “memory used” is usually around 20-25GB so I happy I upped it to 32GB.

The i7 may be more useful down the road. But for me now, it is just overkill.

I did the i7 and 32GB. One of my hobbies is photography and this has been a very nice transition from my Mac Pro 2010.

As to your question, if you can only do one I would go for more memory. But realize memory can be added later. The processor cannot be changed.

Best of luck whatever you decide.
