Yes yes, some of you don't think it's a good idea, but I want to use my iPad as a GPS (I won't do anything else when driving honest).

Do any of you happen to know if this from Proclip:

http://www.proclipusa.com/brodit-de...n.)/holder-with-tilt-swivel-511244-18922.aspx

Will allow me to plug in the usual charging cable? (cigarette lighter)

They have more expensive iPad mounts which talk about cables being plugged in, but I'm interested if this one would be enough to plug in when needed.

Thanks!

I have used pro clips for a long time and i swear by them, easy to install looks clean and quality products, i use the iPhone holder for everyday and i had the iPad 2 mount that i would use for road trips, Will be ordering the new iPad mount soon

ProClip does have quality product. I have one for my 4S. It is AWESOME. And their customer service is top notch.

yes if you use it to watch movies, i use it on road trips not only for music as i do my iphone but prefer the bigger screen for GPS as the iPhone is useless for that. GPS units are not illegal

I need to get some iPhone mounts for my vehicles these look like they will be a nice fit!

I don't see anything about the design would preclude it but you may want to email them to confirm.

The other ones you mention have:

passthrough connectors (so they're like docks):

or they're hardwired with cigarette adapters or straight cords for full hardwiring:

http://www.proclipusa.com/brodit-de...cord-for-fixed-installation-527244-18922.aspx

or they secure the stock Apple dock connector cable:

ProClip offers such options on a lot of its mounts.

i find it hard that these mounts can hold on to the weight of the iPad, but let me know how it goes. I have proclip for my iPhone and it's probably the best car mount in the market :)
