Starting this off - Purely speculation. I'm bored and this is something I've thought about for a while now. I figured I'd bounce it around and see what people thought.
What if all of these production delays for the Watch are because Apple hasn't started mass producing these things yet?
Think about it. They're small. Apple more than likely has access to facilities stateside to have these little casings machined and shipped discretely to wherever they need to be. The rest of the parts can more than likely be manufactured and assembled stateside as well.
We've seen almost zero production leaks. Normally we'll get screens, casings, something "falling off" the production line and getting put up somewhere. The closest thing that I can remember is a screenshot of what ended up being the casing in some pre-production slideshow that was posted on Reddit. Past that? Not all that much.
Also note that the product itself doesn't have a "Made in China" marking on it. I haven't really looked into the packaging - it could be there.
Apple could have just not gotten a lot of these things manufactured in time because they're controlling the entire process. Maybe early-to-mid May is around when the mass production of these will start?
I don't know. Again, something I'm just bouncing around. What does everyone think?
