Due to the pandemic, an increasing number of meetings are being conducted by webcasts, including interviews on media channels. As a result there is a degradation in speaking sound quality by participants, because the quality of the support equipment varies according to the participant’s budget and technical knowledge. Other problems include echo effects and audio feedback in general, and connectivity problems.. “can you hear me?” and “testing 1-2-3”. A recent trend in Apple products is to include multiple microphones for noise cancellation and directionality, and active audio signal processing, including specialized chips for processing audio. Maybe it is time for Apple to create a product that solves most of these problems... the “Apple Microphone”. It should be inexpensive and cross-platform, with USB or wireless connectivity to ensure wide usage. It seems to me to be a natural for Apple, who controls the stack from hardware to software to ease of use.

I think you can find a used, ~1990 Apple Microphone on Ebay for cheap! :D

Apple is never going to get into this business (external microphones). There are way, way, way too many great mics available from too many companies to bother with, and at a price, Apple simply would not sell at.

They'll continue to include and improve-upon the mic built-in to their hardware; which is more than good enough for 90% of the people who buy their hardware.

There are tons of things Apple COULD do, and do really well, but it's a matter of focus and potential for profits. External microphones just aren't a big enough market, or a profitable enough one for Apple to put resources behind.

The microphones on the 16” MBP are pretty decent. But Apple is not going to compete with Shure, RODE, etc. with their own mics.
