Hey guys, my professor's powerbook is going kinda funky right now. It's consistently reverting back to 640 * 480 resolution. How do we fix this? I went to display preferences and changed it to 1280*1024 resolution. However, there are black lines along the sides as if it isn't the right resolution. What's the default resolution for powerbook 15"?

*It also seems to revert back to 640*480 after a few seconds but that might just be because we forgot to click "confirm."

Click "confirm" and check if it reverts or not.

Lol can't. Lecture is already starting right now. 640*480 resolution doesn't look that bad on a projector...In a class of 200 people I seem to be the only Mac expert lol. What is the deafult resolution tho?

Should the resolution not be 1280 x 854 ?

!!! Is that the real default resolution!?

If it is that explains why there must be black lines when we tried 1280*1024 res (wow I just realized that's not a wide screeen resolution)! Hmm I'll try this after lecture today. I swear I'm not trying to be a kissup!

I'm pretty sure that is the default resolution. I looked it up on the internet and everything. Plus it is what my PB defaults to.

Ah, all this time was it hooked up to the projector? Some times the computer or projector have this funny way of insisting on changing the resolution when certain devices are attached. Usually the intent is to optimize the image output of the peripheral device, but 640x480 seems pretty low for any modern projector!

the computer most likely had "turn on mirroring" selected, forcing the PB to have the same res as the projector. that can be turned off in sys pref or just used like that with no problems.

That's what I suspect, too.
