I'm looking for an app that can securely shred, ( erase ) email from mac mail in OSX.

I found this:

http://www.mireth.com/pub/nxme.html -NetShred X

I'm looking to see if there is anything else. Ideally, something just like being able to manually "Secure Erase Trash" when deleting normal mac trash files.

Also, I noticed if you take an email from Email Trash and you drag it to the OSX Trashcan it gets removed from the email trash but doesn't go into the trashcan. It disappears.... Any idea what happens to it? I'm guessing it just gets a regular delete.

BTW- I think this should just be a normal OSX feature.

I'm not aware of any programs out there that do what you're asking. But what are you planning to do about the email service that you use storing your emails?

Or do you have your own hosted server that you control?

GMail will store messages for up to 30 days with a POP account as well as most services. After 30 days, if the user deletes a message, it will forever be gone from the servers.

Thanks for the reply. The mail on servers is purged every so often and I'm not overly concerned about it. Actually, not overly concerned about it on my machine either. It just seems strange to have a system for files but not for email. I delete securely as just a "good practices" policy. I'd like to do the same with email.

I think this will do what you want:

How to erase email instead of deleting email using NetShred X Mac OS X Internet Track Eraser
