I have a pretty cool slingbox-esque setup goin on. At my place I have cable, hooked up through it's cable decoder box and into a mac mini with eyetv. The problem with this setup is that I need to control the digital cable box with it's own remote, therefore, I can't change channels unless I'm in the room, therfore no recording with eyetv unless I set it to the right channel before I leave. I also have CyTV to send the eyeTV feed to a remote mac over the 'net when I'm away from home, but I still can't change channels that way.

The thing that would hook it all together, allowing me to change channels while not in my room, would be an IR blaster on the mac that could be applescripted, or even just controlled on screen with VNC.
