Wouldn't you know my applecare expired about a month ago and now Im having major issues with my machine.....

Programs randomly lock-up or freeze, force quit will not force quit them. Often the machine will not restart and i have to hold the power button.

Used disk utilities and get....

Invalid volume file count
(It should be 678078 instead of 678079)
Invalid volume directory count
(It should be 163987 instead of 163986)
The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired.
Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed.

I tried repairing using the discs that came with the machine- no luck as the machine locks up mid repair.
I have installed a new OS off the discs that came with my machine and used timemachine to put my files back- still have an issue

tested my memory as i thought maybe that was an issue- no luck

Does any one know what else i can try? or what i am doing wrong? PLease help!
