programs opening at startup

I recently installed Lion, which may are may not be relevant.

Now, at startup, Word and Excel open automatically.

I have gone to the "Login Items" box, but these programs are not listed, so I cannot 'unclick' them there.

How can I prevent these programs from opening at startup?
