Projecting iPad on a 800x600 projector?

I bought an iPad 2 to use in the classroom. I have a Dell projector that only projects 800x600. Is their anyway to change the resolution on my iPad 2 for presentations? I tried importing a 800x600 keynote file from my iMac, but when I opened it on my iPad it sized it up and wouldn't project. Does anybody know how to fix this? I'd be in your debt.

Does this projector have HDMI?

Are you using the digital connector or the VGA one? As I understand it, the digital adaptor will only work with the HDMI connection. For older projectors etc, you need to use the VGA adaptor and it will keep the lower resolution.

I have the VGA adaptor but no use

I have a VGA adaptor, not an HDMI. The projector will only project at 800 x 600, but it tells me the resolution for my iPad2 is too high to project. The VGA cable doesn't do any downsizing for me. I'm curious if there is an app, or something in settings that will allow me to lower my screen resolution during presentations so that my projector can handle it.
