Projector shows desktop wallpaper, no apps or data

Greetings,

New 13" MBP, Mini Display Adapter to VGA cable <=> VGA to M1 on HP projector.

Projector displays desktop wallpaper but not windows or icons. F3 screen displays correctly through projector but selection of desktop with wallpaper reverts to wallpaper only display from projector. Like only 1 layer of multi-layer graphic.

PC proficient user since '85 just switching to Mac. Configuration setting? Maybe resolution selection? Other?

sorry i may have misunderstood what your problem is ..but it sounds to me like the macbook display setup is set to extended instead of mirrored

Hey if you go into system prefs > displays > arrangement you can drag the white bar on the top to the other screen you're using (status bar from the top and the dock). Not sure if that's what you're after but may help
