there are 2 reports dating back in February that state that the iPhone 4S will have an entirely different look than the current iPhone 4.

what if there are three upgrades? iPhone 4S, a smaller iPhone, and the iPhone 5?

Bloomberg
Apple has considered selling the new iPhone for about $200, without obligating users to sign a two-year service contract, said the person who has seen it... While Apple has aimed to unveil the device near mid-year, the introduction may be delayed or scrapped, the person said. The prototype was about one-third smaller than the iPhone 4, and it had no “home” button, said the person, who saw it last year. Apple would sell it at a low price mainly because the smartphone will use a processor, display and other components similar to those used in the current model, rather than pricier, more advanced parts that will be in the next iPhone, the person said.

Wall Street Journal, (the source that broke news of the announcement date of October 4, 2011)
One of the people, who saw a prototype of the phone late last year, said it is intended for sale alongside Apple's existing line. The new device would be about half the size of the iPhone 4, which is the current model. The new phone—one of its code names is N97—would be available to carriers at about half the price of the main iPhones.

on the iPhone 5
The person who saw the prototype of the new iPhone said the device was significantly lighter than the iPhone 4 and had an edge-to-edge screen that could be manipulated by touch, as well as a virtual keyboard and voice-based navigation. The person said Apple, based in Cupertino, Calif., also plans to upgrade the iPhone 4.

True, but wouldn't you think that the '5' cases would be arriving in conjunction of the 4S ones? Or atleast around the same time.

Maybe the 4S will be available immediately after the press event and the 5 will be a couple weeks away.

It also seems like those cases have been around for a while. Nothing new or connected to the 4s.

BGR failed on this one. But it was a good excuse to post a new "update" (even if it was crap) to up thier hits!

I don't know if I buy this report. Maybe the company did just release new cases for the existing iPhone. If you look at the second set of photos you will see in the top left corner of the box it clearly says "iPhone 4" If this was for an iPhone 4s wouldn't they have put that on the box somewhere?

Good to know that cases are ready to go since it appears that Apple is hell-bent on continuing to use fragile glass in the construction of it's phones.

Here's to another 12 months of shatters!

There's a news item on the front page about this now, and the Otterbox does have "4S" on the packaging

Just look at speck's website. They are selling the supposed 4s case now for the 4.

This case has been out for 2 months now(Speck Case), the Otterbox is for the white iPhone sensor in the front. It is wider so it can detect if the screen needs to go black if its against your face.

Was it labeled as the 4S too?

"UPDATE: Multiple people have reached out to let us know that the larger camera opening has to do with the LED flash on the current iPhone 4 and not a potential larger camera sensor. As such, the cases pictured above are likely not indicative of a new iPhone model." - BGR

I still believe that Apple is allowing a lot of the 4S leaks to keep some of the mystery around the 5. They are being much more careful about the 5.

You need to see Chronic's tweets.

The only thing actually labeled 4s is an empty box.

The actualy cases bgr claims are new are labeled 4 (at least the otterbox one). And the supposedly new speck one appears to be a few months old.

Non story.

I did. It's just an empty box.

Notice the diff volume buttons.

That still provides a lot of data, empty or not. This was a professionally run retail package from a MAJOR manufacturer. To blow it off is foolishness.

Funny, Chronic is now sorry for his tweet because he thought BGR had the same info. LOL

Blow it off? No. I think it could be real. It seems pretty solid that at a minimum a 4s is coming out soon. But it doesn't tell us jack crap about what the phone is.

It also could be an error. Or just a mockup for some potential future design. It is one box that says 4s on it.

Ah. Now that is interesting. Good eye

I don't own an otter box case now. Is that different than the current case for the 4? I know it looks different than the button configuration.
