Proper Way to Migrate to Photos?

I have used Aperture for years and am getting ready to upgrade my Mac. If I am understanding correctly, nothing will happen to my library until I launch Photos, at which time I will be promoted to transfer. Is this correct?

If I transfer the library, do I then I have 2 independent libraries - one for Photos and one for Aperature? Or does it convert the Aperture library?

Your current library will be imported into Photos and the old one will live on. Though any changes you make to photos in either library, won't be reflected in the other library
