I am a new Mac user and was a little puzzled at how to upgrade to the latest version of FireFox on Snow Leopard. I currently have 3.5.5. I ran my Apple Software Updates and nothing showed up for FireFox. Next I checked in the "Help" menu of Firefox only to find "Check for Updates" dimmed out. I re-logged in as Administrator and again went to the "Help" menu of FireFox only to still find "Check for Updates" dimmed out.

So I dragged the FireFox 3.5.5 application icon to the trash to uninstall it ( by that is a neat way to uninstall programs. It's not that straight forward on Linux). Next I downloaded FireFox 3.6 and dragged the FireFox icon to Applications and it installed. Everything works fine and my bookmarks are still there.

Is this the proper way to upgrade FireFox? Why does an update not show up when I run Apple Software Update? I thought that it was because Firefox is not an Apple program but then again VMWare Fusion updates show up when I run Apple Software Update.

Thanks.
