Pros and Cons of making Outlook the default app for e-mail, calendar and contacts

Hello, my institute uses Outlook for email, calendar and appointment. As a result, I installed Outlook for Mac 2011 on my Mac. After installation, the welcome screen gives me an option to make Outlook the default application for e-mail, calendar and contacts. Could anybody please let me know the pros and cons of doing this? Thanks.
