Looking at buying an external hard drive off Lacie.com and wondered if anyone could provide me with any good or bad comments re Lacie reconditioned external drives vs their new ones.
I would stay away from the reconditioned drives. You never know what was wrong with them or if anything was wrong with them in the first place. Also they only provide 90 day warranty with the reconditioned drives. Their new drives have 1 year. Personally I think my data is worth more than the few bucks I'd be saving.
Cons: Never buy a used hard drive
Buy the enclosure and hard drive seperatly, then just install it yourself. 4 screws and 120 second later, you got an external hard drive.
Avoid it - used - poor warranty - marginal quality reputation on LaCie drives. I agree with the oher poster - go purchase a Seagate (5 year warranty) and enclosure - performance, quality, reasonable price.
