Is there any type of protection plan/insurance for the iphone 3g as where if you accidentally dropped it and broke the phone you can get a replacement because you had this protection plan?

Get a SquareTrade warranty. They are extremely reasonable if you do your homework and figure out how you can a discount on the protection plan. I got mine for 50% off and it worked out to a $80 and change for 3 years of protection.
