Okay, so Apple gives you a perfectly good USB extension cable with a notch in the female end so only the keyboard plug can go into it. Someone tell me why?

I've never had a problem plugging anything else into it. I think its there just to insure a more secure connection so it "clicks" into place.

It should work fine with other USB devices. I think its just an extra precaution
 
ive noticed that as well. I think Apple hopes that it is only used for their keyboards, which i think is a bit strange. I can't give any better reason why
