I'd have just swiped that :D.

Yeah, none of the comparisons really hit me (mainly because I havent seen let alone owned any of those older consoles) until it got to the PSP/iPhone/handheld shot and the comparison with the slim PS2. Still a massive machine in the end...

So it's not that slim really then...... In fact I'm surprised how close to the 360 it is in size / dimensions.

Not really enough of a difference between my current one to make me run out and buy the new one.

Now when the slim pS2 came out that was a different story the difference was huge so i ran out and got the slim version.

Remember, Sony says it's still just a PS3, with no "slim" attached to the name. :D

True, but I did think it would be smaller than it actually is....

Yeah I was going to trade up - but now I'm not so sure whether to bother myself.

My head is telling me that the extra cost of the upgrade I could buy a 500GB HDD and slot it in much cheaper.

But my heart is telling me that knowing myself I won't be able to resist and will buy one anyway....

Sexy machine, but a little larger than I thought. Thanks for the great link though, it really helped with the size comparison.

Well I've had mine for a week and must say that, although I like the size, I don't mind the buttons, I hate the matte plastic. It looks so cheap in comparison. I also still wish there was a switch on the back of the unit as I do not like leaving machines in standby all the time.

Love how quiet the machine is in comparison to my 2 fat launch ps3's though.

Anyone know how much power the new PS3 consumes in standby mode?

Also, let's have some pictures of power bricks for comparison ;)

That size difference doesn't really warrant buying a new ps3 in my opinion.

I can't see why they bothered...

Slim vs 360

It's nothing like the PS2 Slim was to the original PS2. The PS3 Slim is merely on par with other consoles now. Have thought about getting one as a Blu-ray player myself (and yeah, maybe a few games too :p but I really have enough to play with just the 360).

I got the Slim on Monday I sold my 60 gig to my brother and compared to the original the Slim is much lighter its about less than half the wait compared to the phat the only draw back to me is the usb ports but i got a hub laying around I never really touched any ps2 games or linux as well so overall this was a nice upgrade to.

I wouldn't really call it an 'upgrade' though in any real sense. After all anyone can 'upgrade' there existing ps3 to a bigger HDD, and software wise it has no additional functionality. ;)

The Slim is a nice console, however I am still not keen on the matte finish and I think it would look nicer in the gloss of the original. I have mine on a iCurve laptop stand so it looks like it's floating in the air.
