So here's my setup: PS4 digital audio optical (output) -> Optical audio cable -> Mac (2006) digital audio optical (input) -> Mac (2006) line out port (output) -> Computer Speakers. I'm running Mac OSX 10.7.5, Lion. On the video end, I have HDMI out from my PS4 connecting to the HDMI in on my computer monitor. The computer monitor does not have speakers or an audio out port.
There's a good chance that I'm overlooking something simple here, but I can't seem to get sound from my PS4 to my computer speakers using this setup. I have played with all combinations of sound settings on the PS4 (enabling / disabling 5.1 sound, using PCM, changing bitstream, etc.) and nothing seems to work. On the Mac end, I have gone into the sound options in system properties and chose "Optical Digital in-port" for the "Input" and "Audio line-out port" for output. In the "Input" section of the sound options, while I have "Optical Digital in-port" selected and my PS4 is on, I see the blue Input levels light up like my computer is properly receiving the sound. However, I hear nothing from my computer speakers. I have also tried selecting built-in speakers for output and that has made no difference.
I know someone will say why not just use headphones or plug your computer speakers directly into the PS4 controller. Well, I do currently use the computer speakers plugged directly into the controller for sound, but what I'd really like to do is have the sound working without cables plugged into my controller. It's just a hassle, and I'd like to use my controller without being tethered to my speakers. Can anyone help me out??
