Just got a new PS5 Controller and tried it out with the Apple TV 4K 3rd generation I got a couple of weeks ago. It pairs successfully, but after a short time the left paddle starts 'sticking' and makes it impossible to control game play (with Horizon Chase 2, the only game I've tried it with so far). It works fine with the Apple TV 4K 2nd generation I also have. Both are running latest tvOS.

Anybody else have this issue?

I haven't tried my old Nimbus Steelseries controller yet, hopefully that will work with the new Apple TV. And hopefully Apple will address it with a tvOS update.

Interesting. I just bought an Xbox Wireless Controller for the Apple TV 4K 3rd generation, but haven't tried it yet (Xmas present). I wonder how that set of devices will behave together. I didn't think the 3rd gen Apple TV 4K would behave differently than the 2nd gen.

Probably not this, but I am curious if your ATV4K3 is getting hot while playing games.

Some have reported the top of the new ATV getting extremely hot to the touch while playing games. Since you mentioned that the PS5 controller works fine initially, then starts to act weird after playing a game a while, I wonder if heat might be a reason.

No, it's definitely not that.

It happened just in the first couple of races, until I noticed it was 'steering' even when I wasn't touching it. My Nimbus does not have that issue on that Apple TV. As for heat, it was warm but not at all hot (after probably 30 minutes of constant play).

And conversely the PS5 controller has no issues with the 2nd gen Apple TV 4K.

I forgot to come back about the Nimbus. It seems to work fine.

Installed the new 16.3 Beta and the PS Controller seems to work fine now, happy they fixed it!!
