Well. It finally happened. This is for anyone curious about real world water incidents. And it’s a little more interesting than toilet or puddle drops.
I did an unintended test of the iPhone XS Max’s water resistance.
For a scuba/spear fishing dive off of Pompano Beach in Florida, I decided to wear my neoprene cargo dive shorts. While loading our boat I slipped my phone into the left cargo pocket. Great idea!
Got to the dive spot and completely forgot to take the phone out of the pocket before dropping in. To make matters worse, had to cut the dive short because of ripping current and bad viz. we normally stay down about 100 minutes on 35 EAN with steel 100’s.
So I think the phone is rated one meter immersion for 30 minutes? Did about 10 times that depth for about 30 minutes.
Took the phone to Apple and paid the $99 replacement(AC+L&T) as the phone had no chance of repair after diagnostics.
Here’s the dive statistics.
