16" M1 Max and Chrome was sluggish and taking 16GB of memory for 8 tabs, I thought I should switch to another browser. Didn't realize that Chrome offers an alternative for downloading a version made for Apple chips.

I switched and it's a world of difference. Now only taking 4GB memory and snappy as heck.

Why Chrome doesn't update itself depending on hardware is beyond my knowledge of such things.

I also downloaded this version of Chrome when I first installed on my new M1 Max 16". I didn't have the other version previously installed on this computer so I don't have a frame of reference but it sure seems to be far superior to the version of Chrome that I was using on my last MBP. It's not hogging all of my resources and making my fans run constantly and doesn't seem to be taking a huge hit on my battery at all.

Yeah I restored from a Time Machine backup so I didn't realize there were separate downloads for some updated apps like Chrome.
