Hey all,

just a quick-headsup for those eagerly awaiting iStat Menus support for the new macs. It has happened today! :)

Screenshot 2021-11-15 at 14.41.23.png

I have been running the previous version (6.60) on the M1 Max and it worked fine. The release notes say that this new version (6.61) has IMPROVED support for the new Macbooks. I wonder what these new features are?

The screenshot that the OP posted looks just like the previous version, so its hard to tell.

On my M1Max, the main deficiency was with Sensors – the only one that showed up was SSD temperature. With the new version, I now see the assortment of temperature sensors for CPU, GPU, memory, etc., as well as fan speeds and power usage.

Odd, I just recently downloaded this program and was doing the trial, and I already had those functions. The version is marked 6.60. Maybe I actually got 6.61 a few days early?

Either way, it's good to see that everyone can now get all the sensor data.

Maybe they didn't update the website yet since the installer is always the same.
FWIW, it didn't auto-update for me and didn't find a new version, had to manually download this morning.

I would love iStat Menu vs TG Pro, except for it costs $10 every 6 months vs. one time buy of $10. No thanks!
I don’t think I’m paying a subscription for iStat Menus— there were some added ”premium features”, like weather and such, but I didn’t opt in to those and it hasn’t been an issue.

Just looked at the site— I think you’re confusing the cost of iSM ($15, one time) with the Setapp bundle ($10/mo)?

Regarding pricing, I'm happy iStat Menus has charged me just once instead of subscription but it feels like I gave them $10 many years ago. I'd love to see a version 7 so I can give them money again...it's an incredible value at $10 considering how many years go between major and yet they continue to give us free updates for years.

6.0 came Summer of 2017 so we're on 4 years of free updates.

Thanks for the heads-up! I've been missing the sensors on my M1Pro. It's odd that when I check for updates from the app, it says it's up-to-date. Guess it will take some time for the update to be available through the app. I'll just download from their website.

How did you do a manual update? Never mind, I figured it out. Just download the new version from the same page the OP put in the initial post.

Huh? Not an apples-to-apples comparison.

iStat Menus isn't subscription. I bought it one-time a few years ago, and I've gone on/off the live weather portion which is an additional cost. That said, you can completely ignore the weather service.

TG Pro, which I also have and like, and the core (read: minus weather aspect) iStats Menus app are feature-competitive.

Matthew, how did you get it to show two values 57 and 0 in the menu bar? I can only configure them horizontally, not vertically like you have it. Thx.

Scratch that, I figured it out. There's a stacked option in the Inactive section that I dragged into the display area and now it's stacked.

What are people using for the temperature displayed on the menubar? I picked CPU Core Average which looks like the most sensible option. For Intel Macs I left it to the default which was CPU Proximity Sensor. On an M1 Pro it consistently reports a higher temperature (above 100F/38C) than my 2015 rMBP which was usually in the mid-90s F (~35C).

It's not a big deal as the new one stays cool even when busy, unlike my 2015 whose fans roared and became scalding hot when lightly used. I'm just curious what people are choosing.

For anyone looking for a free alternative, I'm using the Stats app and it's very functional as far as I can tell. You have to download dmg file from a git repo, because it's not available from the app store. It's a universal app, to boot. It did almost give me heart failure when I thought core temp was hitting 100C+ while viewing this site, but then I realized it was displaying temp in Fahrenheit so I changed app setting to Celsius. ?
