For anyone considering the Air, if Macro photography support is important to you, this is the only phone in the lineup that doesn’t have it. Was considering the Air until I saw this. Both the standard 17 and the Pro models support it. Just trying to save people some frustration in advance.

What is the minimum focus distance the iPhone Air can achieve?

Fully expected since there's no ultrawide lens.

The minimum distance for a single lens phone like 16e is about 5 inches.

That is a bummer.

So no more pictures of ants

Many of my photos (on my 11) are taken with the ultra-wide lens; I think I'd miss it if I got the Air.
Just curious, what do you use the Ultra Wide for?

On my 16 Plus, the quality of the main sensor is so much better that I’ve barely used the Ultra Wide.

Landscape photos when I'm out hiking, and Ansel Adams' "zoom with your feet" would cause me to fall off a cliff 😁

Yeah, landscape photos are cool. But with the difference in sensor quality I always end up using the main camera regardless.

I think that the Air is more expensive than the regular 17 and it is a compromise, it is also a compromise vs the 16 Plus that it replaced.

I’m not loving it. But that’s just mainly because I don’t care about thinness. Macro is cool, it has no Ultra Wide, one speaker, battery life still to be determined (allegedly it matches the plus but colour me skeptical).

I think the regular 17 is a far better value proposition.

In terms of camera, I agree: no Ultra Wide is a shame. I don’t use it a whole lot, but I think it’s cool to have. I’d miss it if I didn’t.

This isn't a PSA, it's literally in the tech specs...can't have a PSA for everything that's different ya know.

Macro is also useful to use iPhone as a barcode reader. I love iPhone Air but sure if I buy it I would miss the macro and UW. Still thinking

For once-in-a-while macro, can always use a third-party attachment, but yeah if oftenly used you want it built-in.

I’m into macro photography with cameras, but honestly, the 16 Pro Max didn’t take great macros anyway, and the 17 Pro is probably the same. So maybe the Air not having it isn’t that big of a deal?

Depends on the person. But most people would probably say, "I'd rather have an imperfect macro shot. It's better than have zero ability to take a photo when the object is 5 inches away."

Well yeah, but it’s a not-so-big trade-off for having the first generation of a stylish design
