Just opened my 2012 Mini for the first time in three years.

Get the dust out.
 
This is inevitable :p Even my 2018 Mini had a thin collection of cat hair when I changed the RAM last Friday.
 
Yup, I pop mine apart every six months or so to get rid of the dust, particularly the computers in my classroom. The room is very dusty, and they're excellent at sucking it all up.
