So I know there was/is some confusion about the coatings used on each finish of the iPhone 12 Pro models. I believe the silver model is the only one that has zero treatment, all the others have a PVD coating applied. After a months use of my 12 Pro, I noticed that the charging port area is severely scratched up. You can see the indent of the lightning cable create a “ring” around the actual port. I thought maybe it was just an edge case, but now my 12 Pro Max is starting to show the same signs a few days in. I am not rough at all, I baby my devices and I have never had this problem before. I don’t go “hunting” for the connection either. Just wanted to give y’all a heads up, check your port now and in the future, unless scratches and marks don’t bother you. The one nice thing is that you can polish the bare steel and buff out micro scratches, just like you can with the silver SS watches. If only I had wireless CarPlay, I could use MagSafe and get no scratches!

The photo is of my 12 Pro Max that I received on Friday. I should have snapped a pic of the 12 Pro, it was much worse..... I can’t imagine what this will look like after a few months. Also, I would be crazy careful with hard cases or cases that you have to “pry” off, like Pitaka etc.

I don't understand why they don't give the Silver the PVD treatment, too. Is the Silver meant for Wabi-Sabi enthusiasts? ;)

Idk. It’s bittersweet, silver is the only one you can polish and get rid of light scratches.

I honestly don't understand how that would be possible. it should be literally impossible for the plastic of the connector, to scratch the stainless steel.

Are you sure it's not just gunk that you need to wipe off with a wet cloth?

Mine looks exactly like this, but it’s the entire phone. It’s been in the apple leather case since 11/13 too and is just covered in tiny scratches.

I have scratches near my charging port as well. Makes me regret going with silver over gold a little but at the same time doesn’t matter much as it’s in a case and the scratches can be polished so I’m not too up I arms over it.

I have a tiny mark between the charging port and the speaker grill on my max that probably was there new that I’m going to polish out with the cape cod cloth later.

Do you have an pictures of how yours looks?
I’m going to have to try to get some pictures of my phone. Mine isn’t horrible around the charging port, but it just seems like dust or something crept in past the leather case and just destroyed everything even while babying it. It’s mostly the corners and other random spots. Very frustrating.

My last couple pro max's have been silver and I've used the apple leather cases, the bottom is exposed and gets a bunch of micro scratches. With that being said it never really bothers me as it's normal wear and tear and expected with the silver phone. Polish it out and it looks like near new again, perks of the SS silver iPhone.

Hi guys, I just exchanged my Graphite iPhone 12 pro max to a silver and in less than an hour, the scratches are so visible. I was stress but I realized it can be removed easily by using Stainless Steel cream which made it looks brandnew again ...

My pacific blue got scratched from a brand new micro fiber cloth, pretty ridiculous tbh... Shows how much Apple's quality is going down hill.

This... It's Wireless Charging FTW!!!

Couldnt "ever" imagine plugging lightning cable into my Pacific Blue PM 🤯
I plug a lightning cable into my pacific blue pro max once a day 😁

These phones aren’t going to stay new forever, enjoy them while you got them, then onto the next iPhone. 😁

Don’t see any marks around my lightning port.
