Hi all,

This is a strange one-noticed on my XS Max that as of late it is EXTREMELY slow to bring up the login browser screen when connecting to a public (hotel, airplane and airport thus far) WiFi spot requiring a login of some kind. Normally it’s a few seconds and the last few days (first trip where I’ve connected to a public WiFi like this in awhile so I don’t know exactly how long it’s been going on). On my phone I’m having to click the desired WiFi, it connects (blue check mark but no WiFi logo in top right as of this point) and wait for about 45-60 seconds until the login screen finally pops up from within the WiFi settings and allows me to connect.

Thought it might be the networks themselves but my iPhone 8 and iPad both bring this screen up right away as my iPhone always had before. I tried resetting the network settings and that didn’t make any difference.

It’s a small thing but seems to be related to my XS Max itself. Any similar experiences recently with latest iOS update 12.2 upgrade or thoughts on how to troubleshoot?

Many thanks!

Uggh yeah I agree, it has been slow to come up for me too, and I always thought it was something wrong with their Wi-Fi. I have been trying to get the grocery store wi-fi page to work, since Kroger stores in my area allow you to scan items with your phone and walk out the door, provided you're on their wi-fi network.

Does it only happen when using public wifi? There are a couple I use regularly and they are always slow to bring up the login page. Works fine anywhere else and thus I can't point the finger at my iPhone as the issue.

Whoah! The future is now!

My grocery store calls in a SWAT team if the item I scan in the self checkout is more than 3μg out of spec...

Yep they call it "Scan Bag and Go"

You can also use their devices, but I would prefer to use my own phone, simply because their devices have been in so many hands, and yeah the whole spiel about germs. Also when you pay with your own phone, you can pay with it, and head for the door, whereas if you use their device, you still have to stop at a self checkout to pay using their card reader.

Sam's Club as Scan & Go as well. This you exclusively pay with your phone.

Grrrr!!

Here in Toronto ... the "TConnect" Wi-Fi public service in our TTC Subways ... is excruciatingly SLooooooW; slower than molasses! Doesn't matter if on iPhone 6s, 7, iPhone 8 (256GB) or iPhone X ... it's been slow for almost the full 2yrs it's been offered.

TConnect uses branding on their landing page to "connect" and authenticate before their connection allows the IP address granted full external connection. The issue I'm finding, regardless of iPhones is the length of time for ...
a) selecting Access Point: TConnect to actually connect.
b) the landing page to show up after connection ...
c) the few seconds thereafter to be ... 'Done' to allow final connectivity to the internet. If you swipe away or switch apps before this ... no internet connection and you'll need to repeat the some 12-20 second process again ... most likely you'll wait for the next TTC subway stop since your train has already moved.

Usually ... TConnect would bring up the login browser screen (within the iOS Wi-Fi settings page) ... and last week was the first time that page loaded ... and THEN actually opened Safari before you can accept the agreement to connect: GRRRRRR I was furious and I'm sure many others were and TTC / TConnect service put a stop to that.

I'm not sure if the slow connection - which is not isolated to Toronto's TConnect (happens with Telus, Scotiabanks, and Bell's public Wi-Fi within the downtown Toronto PATH around the King/Bay banking towers) ... but anywhere: Starbucks (not as slow yet still slow), McDonalds, PizzaPizza, Ritz-Carlton Hotel's etc. etc. etc.

I'm wondering if this is a fault with iOS or any chipset within so many iPhones?!

A few friends with iPhone X seem to be having the same problem at this point too so it seems to be an issue with the latest iOS version I guess.

Regular WiFi is okay it’s just public, need to login or accept WiFi like airports, hotels, trains etc have, that brings up a separate browser-like login page. Eventually cond

I never had an issue until my latest trip for work and I noticed my daily hotel WiFi connection was taking forever. Pulled out my iPhone 8 and iPad and both connected right away. Tested on probably 8 different WiFi networks so far and happens on each one where my iPhone 8 (work phone) opens immediately.
