Punch a hole in public school's firewall for BitTorrent?

Anybody know how to punch a hole in a public university's firewall or what ports to use for BitTorrent? I'm at Illinois State University and I'm getting sick of only downloading at like 5kbps on a connection that can handle 38,000kbps. I do more sharing than downloading, so not being "connectable" is really starting to bother me. I've gotten through an entire year, but I can't go another three without being able to download anything.

... don't live in the dorms. They're probably going to notice if you "punch through" and they'll probably shut down your connection
