Punctuation key???

Am I missing something? Is there no way to add a punctuation key to the keyboard? It seems like the most unintuative thing to have to hit the alt 123 key to get to basic punctuation. I love my iPhone and iOS but I have to be honest here that I miss the Android keyboard a bit.

Please tell me I'm missing something really simple

Further tip: You'll find alternative characters by doing that on several other keys, as well. Like E and O.

Can you imagine how frustrating it was to keep going back and forth. I knew I had to be missing something LOL
