price of ssd far too expensive, if i get the 2.4 new macbook would i be able to upgrade to ssd drive later?

Why shouldn't you be able to? The drive is easy to replace. You'll only have to make sure the drive fits and uses the right interface when purchasing it.
Agreed. The price of SSDs are too high for the performance gain. Also, it'll be cheaper to buy from a 3rd party rather than Apple.
