Hi macrumors,

My first post here. Purchased a 2020 MacBook Pro 13" i7/1tb/16gb last week and after reading through the threads I see the fan noise problems still exist, if I am correct. I had a 2011 MacBook Pro 13" i7 that was purchased brand new that I was using up until couple of weeks ago. Sold it. I had fan issues with that Mac and it used to be constantly on everytime.

I am thinking if I should return this and opt for a i5. My usage is YouTube, NetFlix, web browsing and once in a while I would use Light Room. What is your opinion?

I recently bought a 2020 MacBook pro 13 inch 16GB/1TB/i5 and it has no fan issues.

I have a 2020 i7/32GB/2TB 13" MBP and it doesn't have what I would consider any fan noise issues. Compared to the latest (and I've tried most of them) notebooks PC and Mac the 2020 13" MBP is fairly quiet. Yes, the fans will spin up if you run something CPU intensive or if a browser (looking at you Firefox) mis-behaves and starts grabbing 150% CPU utilization. When doing office tasks, watching 1080P YouTube, Hulu, Netflix, etc. I rarely hear the fans running and believe me I'm the most OCD person you've ever met when it comes to fan noise.

Thats actually the same specs I am going to get..I am returning my current one!

If you prefer quiet over performance there are utilities that will disable turbo mode and keep things cooler at the expense of speed.

Thanks for the help guys...I am returning the i7/16gb/1tb and have placed an order for i7/32gb/2tb

May be too late or not applicable, but you can pick up that config at Apple Stores. It's a hidden config that most stores stock. You can check by configuring that model online then checking the local stock.

I was actually planning on doing that and had the option of picking it up. Don't want to deal with the lineups at this time. Or does a online order pickup get priority over others?

In the US pickups are a different line from general shoppers. You have to select a store, date, and time at time of purchase when doing a pickup.

Exchanges and returns are also in a separate line from people just shopping.
