Afternoon.

In my Apple TV app on MacBook, I have a few purchased films over the years... To free up space I'd like to delete the files from the HDD, and then download only when necessary.

However I look at Purchased films on my AppleTV Box, it only shows 1 film? Where are the rest, anyone?

Do you see the same in the Library section of ATV app too?
Have you tried the obvious things such as logging out and in again, a restart of the ATV?

Movie purchases are tied to the Apple ID in which they were purchased under. Movie purchases are only available for re-download if they are still available to purchase from the store. Movies periodically get removed. Once gone, if you don't have it saved locally to your machine, you will never be able to retrieve them. The store is not a permanent storage of your purchased content. Also some content while it may have the same title may actually be a different release of said title. Example being the recent 4K remaster of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. That version is a different purchase than the original release.

Wow really, films lose availability after a time period? How can I know that from using the app?
Hmmm guess I won't be deleting them then...

Well that’s not correct, I’ve got a few movies and TV shows that are no longer available for sale and they’re still available for download.

it's 100% on the movie studios, since they are the ones that actually own the movie, you've just paid a fee to be able to use it. If the studio changes their mind or renegotiates their contract, there is a chance things can disappear from apple's servers.
it's all pretty much out of apple's hands.

What also helps is to link your iTunes Movie account to MoviesAnywhere. Most of the movies you own will be put in your MA account database and you can access them from other avenues to watch. Also "most" of the movies you buy elsewhere will be included (sucked) into your iTunes account, some even upgraded to 4K UHD HDR from HD. But not all movies get transferred or upgraded. But I have never seen the count and titles change in my MA account. AND when Youtube and Amazon joined in "most" all my movies were then included to view through their portals. So if I buy a movie from any of the member services or get codes from member movie companies (most all), the movie will be distributed throughout safely.

I have never trusted iTunes and have been tricked when I go to watch a better version of the movie that I have watched in iTunes before and it's not there when I return. I think I have lost my mind and freak when looking for titles that I knew where in iTunes, but then aren't. Now I'm just use to it and make sure I buy from sources that populate my purchases to MA that assures that they're safe. You can even watch them through MoviesAnywhere.

Could be wrong but going by the screenshot the OP is from the UK, there is no Movies Anywhere in the UK.

What they’re not in your purchases library at all or are you meaning they don’t show up on a search?
