Purchased items on iTunes

Does anyone know why some items (music/movies/tv shows) I bought over the years show up as purchased when looking on the iTunes store front but others don't. It seems completely random, especially as somethings show up as purchased on my iPhone but not in iTunes. Others don't show up on either but I have no problem re-down loading them if I delete them. Any ideas?

Is it possible some of those items were purchased with a different Apple ID?

No they're both set to my only apple account. I can see everything I've bought if I look in the purchased section, but only some items actually show as purchased if I look at them in the store front. And its different between my iPhone and desktop (which is on OS X).
