Purchasing a used Mac

Hello,

A friend has offered to sell me his iMac for $50. He states it works perfectly. All I'd use it for is web access & in-case of a failure of my MacBook Pro.

Question: do to being 10 years old and having only 2mb of memory, is it upgradable to macOS Sierra?

Also, how does one erase all of the existing files/photos/etc. and return it to the factory settings.

it is not 64bit so no Sierra for that imac
