In the mid-night rush to order I neglected to order AppleCare. I tried to order it as an accessory afterwards but the Apple Store site won't allow an order without a Watch in the cart also. A friend of mine got on chat and got AppleCare added to his order. I called the Apple Store and was told it wasn't possible and the only way to add Applecare was to take the watch to a retail store before 60 days after my order or 60 days after receiving the watch, she wasn't sure which. I live several hundred miles from a store so that isn't exactly convenient. A friend of mine got on chat and got Applecare added to his order. I was told this wasn't possible. Has anyone gotten AppleCare added post order and if so how?
 
Depends on your state. I couldn't get AppleCare added to my iPhone 6+ order because it's illegal to sell insurance products over the phone in Florida. I forgot to add AppleCare to my watch order as well so I'll be taking a trip to the Apple Store once I get the watch. Fortunately my store is only a few minutes away.
 
call the apple care phone number. I added it to mine today. If they tell you they cannot, ask to speak with someone else. I did this just 3 hours ago.
 
Same boat, called Apple Store the later that morning and I was told to call back on the 24th, given a case number for reference and Apple Store rep thought it could be added then. He said not to sweat it that when the watch came I could add it on then.
 
I would have thought AppleCare Plus would not be of much use to you if you live that far away from an Apple Store to begin with.

Every time I call I get a different answer, other than the one I want. The last one said I could order it after the watch arrived. My neighbor called and got three watch orders updated to Applecare. Bizarre. Makes you wonder.
 
i called and asked because i did the same thing. I was advised to wait until i got the device so that my shipping would in no way be changed even by accident. upon getting the watch you have 60 days to call and add it.

It's still useful. You can call and get service via phone, order replacements etc. Apple Store makes it even more useful.

Pretty normal for dealing with CSRs. Call back and if the next one says no, ask for a manager. Be firm but polite. Not everyone is trained well or retains the training well.
 
I am sure you can buy it later from home. If you do it for iPhone they run diagnostics to see if it actually is still in working condition, and as the Watch is connected to your iPhone I am sure it will work in exactly the same way. The guy in the local Apple store said very much the same when a friend asked about it.

Tried 2 more times. The last guy said that if you order AppleCare online after you've ordered the watch the AppleCare isn't tied to the watch. Amazing how every support specialist has a different answer.

Yet according to the product description on Apples website you can purchase Apple Care up to 60 days after ordering the watch.
 
I don't see the value of AppleCare+. Using Australian prices, AppleCare+ for the SS Watch is $109. For that, you get phone support for an extra year and the chance to replace your watch for $119 if you break it. So it costs you $109 with no benefit if you don't break it, and $219 (vs $800 for a brand new watch or probably about $300 for a third-party repair) if you do break it. To me, that only makes sense if you think there's a better than 10 to 20% chance that you will break it.

Has anyone here ever used or wanted phone support after the first 90 days?

The battery replacement is the only thing that makes me pause and consider that it might be worthwhile.

After the watch arrives, you will need to go to a store to get AppleCare plus ... they need to verify it has not been damaged (to prevent people from breaking your device then getting insurance).

But ... you definitely should be able to add it before the device arrives since Apple knows it is not damaged. I have done this in the past with an iPhone.

As someone else suggested, try calling a few times or ask politely to speak to a supervisor.

It can also increase the resale value as well as make it easier to sell second hand. I've got much better prices for my iPhones and iPads when I bought AppleCare or AppleCare Plus for them and they were easier to sell.

Does the AppleCare+ plan transfer to the new owner when you sell it?
