Here's the situation. After shopping around for 2 weeks I have determined that for the same price I can purchase either of the following.

20" iMac with 1 GB RAM and AppleCare

or

1.8 GHz G5 with 1 GB RAM, 17" Studio Display, AppleCare

I like the bigger monitor on the iMac, but I like the ability to upgrade over time on the G5. (Is the 20" Cinema Display worth the extra $600?)

I will keep the computer for 3 years.

Which one do I buy and why?

Thank You!!!!!

G5

You can always trade up to a bigger monitor after a year or so...the G5 will give you way more value for your cash. You could buy a cheap CRT for now and save up for a nice 20 inch lcd....

I agree with the others, the G5 has far more longevity in it, and since you obviously don't need a low end machine the power of the G5 will really benefit you.

i second (ok, more like sixth) getting the G5. did you consider getting a non-apple LCD displays? you will be able to purchase a bigger one for the same price.
