Hi guys!

Torn in between a couple of options here and trying to stay as cost effective as possible.

I have a Macbook Pro, (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013), 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3,
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB, Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB. 500GB Hardrive.

I use it mostly for video editing and it holds up very well but I'm undertaking a bigger project and need a much bigger screen / more space to edit (An SSD too I'm guessing).

Am I better off purchasing an iMac off my friend 16GB RAM, 1GB SSD Drive, 3.5GHZ 2017.

Or

Purchasing a 27" monitor (Suggestions please if so!) and an external SSD? Possibly even upgrade to an internal?

Does my machine have the chops to last another while? Battery is lasting about 3hrs at the moment constant use.

Really need help as I'm not a hardware person and find that makes me very indecisive as I am anxious I'll make a decision and waste money when I don't need an iMac.

You don’t mention the price of the iMac

A good 27” 4K screen can be had for about $600. I’m sure you can replace your HDD with a SSD for less then $200. You can even replace your battery for less then $200

$1000 upgrade with a new 4K monitor vs price for a friends iMac ????

Not enough info.
You are going to buy this from a friend?
How much?
Is it 27"?
Or 21"?

Apologies, its a 27 inch and all that for €2250

27" and €2200

In the USA that model except 512SSD sells from the Apple refurbished store for $2119.

On the Irish website, 27inch with a 1tb ssd and 16gb Ram comes in around €3300.

I might just go with the macbook upgrade.
